Easy Listening, Half Training, FFLinkUp!

How are you today?  What are you doing?
It is dark and rainy here today.
The hubs is home sick.
I'm in jammies, listening to The Carpenters... actually 'rainy days and Sunday's always gets me down...' was just sung!
I love Karen Carpenter's voice...  I'm a nerd, I know!
Doesn't that 70's, easy listening music give you are warm fuzzy feeling inside, like life was more simple back then... :)

Go ahead and take a gander at this jammin' music video.

I think it was last week I signed up for the Philly Half Marathon.
Initially I was going to run a fall marathon, but... things change.
I didn't want to completely give up on a fall goal, thus the half.
Normally I slow down my running in the fall and cycle more.  In my brain I think it saves my knees a bit... gives me more longevity with them.
Do you worry about your knees, having to get surgery someday?  I do... because the thought of surgery scares me almost as much as the thought of not being able to run!

I read somewhere that the half is 'the endurance of the full and the speed of a 10K', or something like that.
I agree, this is the challenge of the half.
I PR'd the half I ran this spring... surprising to me because I had just started my training...
Naturally my goal this time is to beat that time... because I've had a whole summer of running and I'm now training again.
I'd love to run it at 1:35- 1:37.  That is an achievable goal... that is a 7:15-7:30 pace.  Any faster than that and I'm breaking my 10k PR record, which is due for an update anyway.

Training has been going well.  This time I'm using this as a guide...
I adjust it, mostly on the 5k days.  Who only runs 3 miles?  That came out wrong, it would seem advanced runners would be putting more miles in than that... and this plan is for advanced runners... Whatev's.  I'd rather combine two of those days and have a cycle day or a rest day.

I'm trying the time based training instead of mile based, for the LR.
This is new for me, and frankly I'm not sure it makes a difference.  Because if I'm not at a half or a full mile when I hit 90 minutes I'm going to finish that out!  AND I'm still watching my pace mile to mile.  I don't know, it doesn't seem much different to me!  I still translate everything into miles!

Do you do time based training and tell me what you like about it?.

Here are some shots from my rides the last couple of weeks.  See my day to day training here.
