Q's Craft Party

Getting sick really throws things out of whack right?

Our family got sick the week of Q's party. E vomited Wednesday night so when nothing happened Thursday I thought it was just him.

Friday was party prep day! I got food ready, decorated etc. Q wanted red velvet cupcakes for her birthday so I got those all ready. Of course I had to try one after dinner and little O went ahead and snuck one for himself as well.

Friday night I wasn't feeling too good. I wanted to leave for craft night early to get some errands run. I was feeling odd enough that I stayed home, just to see.

I lay down and sure enough... really wasn't feeling good. I distinctly remember feeling like red velvet really can't be good for you if it's still that red coming back up (sorry for the barf talk!)

Shortly thereafter my little O, who was in bed already, was moaning, then sitting up, then yacking. Now I remember feeling red velvet really isn't good for you... it stained my carpet red! Matt helped clean up. O barfed again! He commented 'You couldn't have just gone with white cake?' Well, had I known it would be all over my floor, surely I would've gone with a dye-free cake!

It was a long night!

On top of that, a moral dilemma. Q felt fine and was expecting her birthday party the following day. Guests were all planning to be there. All the stuff was bought. Do I suck it up and still throw the party, or do I call everyone to reschedule? Do I just not mention that I was barfing just the night before? I called Molly to get an opinion. She wasn't there, but when she did call back, shortly before the party she told me her girls would be sad to not be able to go.

On with the party!

My good friend Betsy came down to help.

It went as great as I could hope for. Everyone stayed busy the whole time. The girls loved making crafts (it was a craft party). It was wonderful! Q was in heaven, and that's what a mommy's job is all about.

This is the treat/gift table.

Q had drawn a picture for each girl to color as she arrived and waited for the rest of the guests. The girls really enjoyed that! Q loved answering the door as it rang, then bringing her guests in to color. She really is a talented artist.

We crafted together. Betsy was on headband duty... Joely is sporting a headband made by herself! This was a big hit. I used all of the cute flowers I had already made.

They also painted and decorated picture frames, and decorated purses with fabric paint and bling.

The last station was bracelets. We went the easy route and used memory wire. I floated and helped the girls wherever they needed it. Jewelry proved to be the most challenging.

The girls went for treats as they started finishing up. We worked the crafts in stations. It went nice and smooth.

After crafting we lunched.

Wegman's subs, cheese balls, blueberries or apples for those that don't like berries. Pink lemonade to wash it down, in these adorable milk bottles, again, a hit! We just may use them all the time! They were fun!

We finished up with cupcakes. The girls were just finishing as parents arrived. I did send home some wet crafts, and got paint on a few parents... ooops! But, the alternative of having to drop them all off when they were dry, not feeling it!

After the guests left Q and I sat and opened her gifts. She received some great things, she is very fortunate, and was a VERY satisfied little girl! It was her 'lucky birthday' as she put it.

Matt took the boys for a drive, then to McDonald's to eat and play. We were all ready for naps.

Later that evening Q said she wasn't feeling so well. Sure enough, barf! And wouldn't you know she'd had red velvet cupcakes too!

You know, due to food association I will never buy that stuff again! All I can smell is vomit at just the thought of them! And, I know my insides are red, but really, too much dye!

G ended up barfing Sunday morning. His was the only vomit that wasn't colored red, thought you'd like to know!
